Chrystia Freeland makes appearance to support local candidate

A high profile Liberal candidate made a campaign stop in Owen Sound in support of a local one.

Chrystia Freeland served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and appeared in support of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound Liberal candidate Michael Den Tandt. Freeland says she and Den Tandt have known each other for years since they worked together as journalists in publications like the Globe and Mail.

"I love Michael and I have been campaigning all over the country but one of the things I said to the national campaigns one riding it was absolutely essential for me to come to is Bruce Grey Owen Sound," said Freeland.

She added Den Tandt's work as an advisor on trade was crucial.

"I really believe Michael can win and I would be thrilled if on the night of October 21st I'll talk to him on the phone and I will be able to feel like being here I contributed just a little bit to helping push him over the edge."

Freeland touched on the government's efforts to defuse trade disputes with China and the U.S.

She spoke to campaign workers in Owen Sound and moved on to an invitation only luncheon with the party faithful.
