Fundraiser being held to benefit local school playground

A local fundraising event this Saturday will benefit a local school.

Parents of students at Immaculate Conception School in Formosa are hosting a colour run event to raise money for new playground equipment. Heather van Straten says the school is seeing increased enrollment, so the parent council wants to expand the available playground area for the kids.

“Our students just need more space to play. We had to remove one of our playgrounds to renovate the school a few years back, and we’ve got one small play structure there, but we’re looking forward to adding another and something for the older kids to do as well.”

The event will involve a 1, 3 and 5 K colour run/walk, which will be followed by a BBQ and raffle table at the Formosa Lions Park, and van Straten says the colour run is a lot of fun for people of all ages.

“As you move through the stations, there will be volunteers there and they will throw colour on you. It’s corn starch and completely food safe, and at the start you’ll be given a white t-shirt and at the end you’ll be covered in a rainbow.”

Registration is at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, October 5th, with the run/walk of 1, 3, or 5K starting at 10:30. Adults are 25 dollars, students are 15, or you can get a family rate for 70 dollars for 4 people, and extra kids on top of that are 10 dollars each.
