North Perth council supports technology report

A new North Perth Corporate Technology Strategic Plan was presented to council Monday night.

Brian O'Neill, the chief tech officer for TGT Solutions, said the report was based on where the technology is today for the municipality, and where it needs to go in the future.

"Where we are looking to invest is in an upgrade in some of the fundamental operating applications, as well as finding opportunities for more citizen engagement," he said.

O'Neill said that could involve more online convenience for things like signing up for local events or youth sports.

"More online availability for services that should reduce the number of times that people have to actually come and stand in line to receive services here at the municipal office," he said.

Council agreed to implement the plan in its early stages and make budgetary considerations going forward. O'Neill said there are ways council could work around that.

"One of the opportunities that exists, is to build centres of excellence in the county, where one of the lower-tier municipalities provides the service for the entire county," he said.

O'Neill said that could involve streamlining something like staff payroll, where instead of having four or five different payrolls, Perth County could have one for all the municipalities and county staff.
