Eco Exeter program attracting more interest

The Eco Exeter program launched last year by South Huron high school teacher Amanda Keller and her Grade 9 science class has picked up right where they left off at the end of last June.

Keller said on September 12, they invited one class from each of the eight high schools in the Avon Maitland Board to come to South Huron to see what Eco Exeter has done so far.

Keller said their goal is to see other schools start their own programs and that's already starting to pay dividends within Huron County and beyond.

"I talked to the Goderich High School and they talked about hosting a similar day to what we did September 12, but do it for their own high school, which is great.  I also spoke to somebody up in Haliburton last Friday, who had heard about what we had done with Hansen's Your Independent Grocer and they were hoping to do something up their with their high school."

The environment program was launched on the model of the Blue Bayfield program with an objective of reducing plastic waste.

Keller said she's optimistic some of the other Independent Grocer's stores will also get involved.
