The Tanner Steffler Foundation had a successful weekend hosting their first ever Huron County Hockey Day.
The all day event on Saturday featured local minor hockey programs playing in Clinton, capped by an OHL exhibition game between the London Knights and Erie Otters.
John Steffler, a co-founder of Tanner Steffler Foundation, says the turnout and support was awesome. "Kind of overwhelming to see over 1,000 people come together to celebrate Huron County Hockey Day. Just celebrating the local grassroots of Wes For Youth, ourselves, the local health unit was there, as well."
There was an event tent set up next to the rink with live music, a BBQ, and lots of information available to all the fans on mental health and local organizations like Tanner Steffler Foundation that are there to help. Steffler says it was great getting the youth involved in the day.
"That's part of our foundation, as well, just focusing on the youth of Huron County. It was a nice tie in, and it was really rewarding seeing the young kids with a smile on their face looking up the the heroes of tomorrow if you will from London and Erie."
Steffler says he hopes everyone who attended the event took away the message that there are resources and help available for anyone locally struggling with mental health.
