Hanover Kinsmen to disband after decades of community service

Hanover Council addressed some sad news for the community last night.

The local Hanover Kinsmen Club is disbanding after over 85 years of existence.

CAO Brian Tocheri said it's very sad to see a group that did so much no longer exist.

"Numerous projects that they've identified with over the years," he said. "They organized the Christmas Parade and lots of fundraisers."

Tocheri said the Kinsmen also handled the Canada Day BBQ every year among many other events.

"But my understanding is that they're down to just a handful of members now, and they're all getting to the point where they've all been there for a long time, and really they've had trouble recruiting new members. So it's really unfortunate," he said.

Tocheri said he gives the Kinsmen a ton of credit because they have given council a succession plan for all their events, which will now be handled by other groups like the local Lion's Club.
