Canada wins bronze at the WBSC Men's Softball World Championship

Patrick Burns pitched a complete game, allowing three hits and one run while striking out 12 as Team Canada won bronze at the WBSC Men's Softball World Championship with a 3-1 win over the defending champion New Zealand.

The winning run came in the fifth inning when Jeff Ellsworth singled up the middle then stole second on the following out to get into scoring position. Brad Ezekiel hit an RBI single to bring Ellsworth home.

Reilly Makea scored New Zealand's only run with a solo home run in the top of the fourth.

Stephen Mullaley hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game for Canada.

It is just the third time in history that New Zealand has failed to medal at the tournament. Team Canada went into the playoffs with a perfect 7-0 record in round robin play.

Argentina won gold with a 3-2 win over Japan. The Japanese team had also gone into the playoffs undefeated.
