Local entrepreneur to win package to help establish new business

On Thursday night at the Wingham Legion, a winner will be announced for Wingham's "In It To Win It" contest.

Program Coordinator Karen Stewart said that the contest is for local entrepreneurs to win a helping hand in starting a new business.

"There are five entrepreneurs that are going to pitch their new business idea to a panel of judges and a live audience for a chance to win a prize package valued at over $10,000," she said.

The money will go toward a retail space in downtown Wingham with rent for a year, an advertising package and many other things that will assist the winner in establishing their new business. Stewart says hopefully all five entrepreneurs choose to open businesses regardless of winning. The ceremony is at the Wingham Legion at 7 p.m. with free admission.

Stewart said the town had taken tips from other communities who have done something similar.

"I think they looked to other communities for ways to fill up the downtown core. There's a lot of empty storefronts, and I think this was an opportunity to get some new entrepreneurs just a little shove to get their ideas altogether," she said.
