Liberal candidate for Huron-Bruce opens campaign office

The Liberal candidate for Huron-Bruce for October's federal election has opened a campaign office in Goderich.

Supporters packed the office on Hamilton Street as the ribbon was cut Saturday morning.

Allan Thompson said the Trump era has made it acceptable to say anything about anyone and he has no interest in going down that road.

"I think the Trump factor has opened this kind of Pandora's Box that anybody can say anything about anyone. And I think you've really have to resist the temptation to go down that road and to slam your opponent," he said.

He also said he believes in the party platform and he's sticking to it.

"I'm running on that platform, but I also want to keep a really close eye on what really matters to people in Huron-Bruce and, if at times that means I go to bat with my own party, that's fine with me. I think that's what MPs should be doing," he said.

Thompson said it's important for him to maintain a good relationship with the provincial member in Huron-Bruce as well as developing a closer relationship with municipal councils.

Thompson will be challenging incumbent Conservative Ben Lobb in Huron-Bruce, among others who will be running for other parties.
