Planning continues for Clinton church property apartments

The warden of St. Paul's Anglican Church in Clinton is hoping they can get started on new apartments on the property by next year.

Ken van Riesen said they were told last September if they couldn't fill the church every Sunday, they'd have to re-purpose the property.

So Van Riesen said they are going to build between 60 and 85  apartments for people who are retired, but still active, and don't want the upkeep of a house anymore.  The building will be owned by a not-for-profit company.

Van Reisen said they hope to get the project started this fall.

"We should be able to do the tear-down this fall, I would think, and the re-build probably next year, so it would probably be 2021, maybe 2022, but hopefully 2021," he said.

One of the approvals they're waiting for is confirmation that all of the human remains have been removed from what was once a cemetery on the church property, and Van Reisen said he's hoping to get that shortly.

Van Riesen added that one of the benefits to Clinton will be the increase in activity in the downtown area and that should be good news for merchants on the main street.
