Man assaults police officer after arrest for drug offences

A Goderich man arrested for drug charges is now in hotter water after assaulting a police officer.

On April 30 just before 8:30 a.m., Huron County OPP alongside the Huron-Perth Community Street Crimes Unit tracked down the 37-year-old man on a bicycle on Kingston Street in Goderich. The officers informed the man he was under arrest, and he fled on foot, and was later apprehended

The accused was searched and was allegedly in possession of fentanyl, methamphetamine and clonazepam. The man then allegedly assaulted an officer who was guarding him.

The accused faces numerous charges including resisting a peace officer, possession of fentanyl for the purposes of trafficking, assaulting a peace officer, possession of methamphetamine, failing to comply with an undertaking and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order. He was held in custody and will appear in Goderich Court on Thursday.
