2019 barrel racing season begins this Friday

The Ontario Barrel Racing Association is launching its 2019 season this weekend at the Reach Centre in Clinton.

OBRA President Carl Heffernan said they're expecting almost 100 competitors from all over the province at this weekend's kick-off event.

“As far north as New Liskeard, east out to Bellville area, the west we go to Essex and then our central area. So we have members from all over the province," he said.

Heffernan said contestants compete in a range of division, based on their ability and the ability of their horses, so everyone has a decent change. Events include pole bending and rookie pole bending, rookie barrel racing and pee wee classes.

“So that everyone gets a chance, with their ability and their horses' ability to place in different divisions. We have pole bending, we have rookie pole bending. We also have rookie barrel racing, pee wee classes, so something for the whole family," he said.

Heffernan said they'll start Friday night and continue through Saturday and Sunday and they'll have something for the entire family.

More information about the event and a schedule of competitions can be round on the Ontario Barrel Racing Association website.
