GBHS seeking new CT scanner for local hospital

The Grey Bruce Health Services have submitted a business case to the South West Local Health Integration Network to purchase a new CT scanner.

The new scanner would be for the Southampton hospital, which would greatly help offset some of the load taken on by the Owen Sound Regional Hospital, which currently houses the health service's only CT scanner.

Grey Bruce Health Services said every year, about 10 percent of the 12,500 CT scans are provided to patients from the Saugeen Shores and Wiarton areas. Health officials said another reason for the new CT scanner is the growth in population in Saugeen Shores, with roughly 17,000 a year to the Southampton ER.
