Plans for local natural gas ready to move ahead

The mayor of Kincardine says plans to bring natural gas to southern Bruce County are ready to move forward.
Kincardine Mayor Anne Eadie said the National Energy Board is ready to approve plans to bring gas to Kincardine, Arran-Elderslie and Huron-Kinloss

The previous Liberal government had promised a $22 million grant for the project, but the new Ford government quashed that and introduced the Access To Natural Gas Act. New gas projects will be funded through a surcharge on existing customers' bills.

The energy company EPCOR will do the work. Eadie said it will take two to three years to get the gas flowing.

"We're very pleased. It's looking like our project for southern Bruce with this new plan under the new government will stay on the timelines we want it to," said Eadie.
