Former flea market vendors find new home

Many of the vendors from the former Flea Market in Goderich have found a new home.

The Goderich BIA announced a few weeks ago they would no longer be hosting the Sunday Flea Market on the Square in Goderich.

But Terry Saxby, who spoke for the vendors at a recent Goderich council meeting, said they've found a new home at the red barn flea market on Highway 21 across from the Suncoast Mall.

Saxby said they're just working out the details now and they'll be open Saturday and Sunday. He says they're actually adding vendors as some who couldn't sell in Goderich because they weren't from Huron County are interested in joining them at the new location. Saxby said they could have between 70 and 100 vendors on both days and they've also had an invitation to set up a market in Clinton and he says there's some interest in that as well.

Saxby said they'll also set up a vendors committee so that decisions made in regard to the market will be made by the vendors, so it will be a vendor-friendly market and they expect to be up and running by May 4.

“One thing that's important, we have formed a vendor committee, so that decisions in regard to this market will be made by vendors, people that have experience, some of the vendors 30-plus years. So the vendors are making decisions, it will be a vendor-friendly market," he said.  “I've already mentioned to the vendors that Clinton is a possibility. I've had some interest. My primary focus is getting this market going. But once I get this market going and I have a good number of vendors signed up, then I'll be bringing it to their attention that if anyone wants to set up a market in Clinton, I'm all for it.”
