Durham and area citizens are mourning the loss of a long time municipal leader.
Carol Lawrence passed away Thursday surrounded by her family at Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound. Carol Lawrence served her community for 42 years, serving as a Councillor, Reeve and Deputy Mayor for the town of Durham, the Municipality of West Grey and the County of Grey. Former West Grey Mayor and long time associate, Kevin Eccles says Carol Lawrence will be sadly missed.
"One of the great pillars certainly of the County of Grey, the Municipality of West Grey and the Town of Durham. A very sad day," says Eccles.
He adds Carol Lawrence was well like and respected.
"She had time for everybody. Didn't matter who or what the circumstances were, Carol always had that time for everybody and I guess that's what made her such a great community leader."
A funeral service celebrating Carol Lawrence's life will be held at the Durham Community Centre on Monday at 1 p.m., with visitation being held prior to the service from 11 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.
