Local members of parliament are inviting businesses and organizations to apply for funding under the Canada Summer Jobs program.
Applications opened today, and close on January 25.
Last summer, 140 young people were employed across Perth-Wellington through the Summer Jobs program. There were an estimated 135 successful applications in Huron-Bruce.
Those interested can apply online through Service Canada (https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/funding/canada-summer-jobs.html).
Applicants should receive word about their funding by mid-April, 2019.
But Perth-Wellington MP John Nater is disappointed that, after previously lobbying both the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, the date for employer notifications still has not been moved up to allow for earlier hiring.
"Not only is the April notification date much too late for most students to find out if they have a summer job, but employers also must budget and therefore need confirmation of whether or not they will receive funding well in advance of this date," said MP Nater. "University and college students, in particular, must have an idea of where they will be working in the summer by mid-February."
