Deadline near for public feedback on sex education curriculum changes

The response to the province's consultation on its Health and Physical Education or Sex Education curriculum has been overwhelming, according to Education Minister and Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson

The consultation period ends this Saturday.

Thompson said people had three ways to provide input -- written submissions, an online survey, and telephone town halls.  She said the government had to add extra town hall teleconferences to accommodate the number of people wanting to get involved.

"We have the opportunity to continue to grow the education program in Ontario. People have commented on everything from cell phones to job skills, life skills, as well as the Health and Physical Education program," she said.

Thompson said they'll review all of the material and feedback after December 15.

"We'll be implementing the new elementary curriculum as of September 2019.  The 2015 curriculum was maintained in the high school. But we'll see if it needs to be tweaked, based on some of the data that's coming in."
