National Day of Remembrance ceremonies planned

Plans are being finalized for a number of local ceremonies next week to mark the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

In Port Elgin, members of the Canadian University of Women Southport will commemorate the 14 young women who were murdered at L'Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal on December 6th, 1989. That service is scheduled for noon Thursday at Coulter Parkette in Port Elgin.

A vigil will also be held at noon Thursday on the front steps of Owen Sound City Hall.

In Goderich, the Huron Domestic Assault Review Team will lead a service at Courthouse Park at 10:00 that morning.

Another ceremony will be held at the Huron County Museum at 7:00 that night in remembrance of the 14 women who were killed in Montreal 1989.
