Arsenic levels in Dungannon water still unresolved

Councillors in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh are hoping to find solutions soon to the arsenic problem in the Dungannon drinking water.

Levels are marginally above the acceptable levels of ten parts per million and they occasionally drop below that, but Reeve Ben Van Diepenbeek said the ministry has decided not to give them permanent relief.

"Council's dilemma now is we need to start looking at different treatment options and financial options and how it's going to get paid for," stated Van Diepenbeek. "At the ROMA Conference in Toronto this winter we're going to send a delegation to meet with the Ministry of the Environment to talk to them about it and also different agencies and try and get some funding and also the Ministry of Health, we're hoping to talk to them."

Van Diepenbeek said their deadline is the end of July of 2019, but he says if they can at least show they're trying to find a solution, the ministry might be a little more flexible.
