Lack of workers still an issue for Perth-Wellington businesses

Local employers remain concerned about the lack of an available workforce in the area, according to Perth-Wellington's MP.

John Nater said it was one of the most common problems brought forward during two immigration roundtable sessions held this week in Mitchell and Palmerston.

Nater said he's been approached by owners of businesses of all sizes to discuss the challenge of finding labour in the area, particularly in the agriculture, agri-food and processing sectors. Nater said many businesses are accessing labour through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.

Nater used the sessions as an opportunity to discuss changes that could be proposed to make programs for adding immigrants to the local workforce, while at the same time protecting the integrity of the country's immigration system.
