Goderich councillors question certain Rec. Centre fees

The general manager of the Maitland Recreation Centre is feeling some heat from Goderich council.

Several councillors have questioned the $13 fee that is charged to people using the walking track.

Anne-Marie Thomson said the "Y" has to balance fee schedules with increased costs, and the minimum wage increase last year was a factor. She said at that time, they looked at balancing that with increases to their membership rate, or increase the fees for casual users and in the end, they decided to pass the increase on to their casual users.

Thomson said she plans to take Goderich council's concerns back to her Board of Management for discussion.

"We are having more older adults in our community and certainly ensuring that we're providing programs and services for that demographic is a high priority for the Y, so we'll continue to work at some solutions and do that through some guidance from our board of management," she said.
