'Pathways Night' a success for Huron-Perth high school students

The Avon Maitland District School Board's second annual Pathways Night was a success.

The event was held at the Central Huron Secondary School, and the halls were filled with students and representatives from a wide range of pathways, including Community Living, Apprenticeships, workplaces, and College and University.

School Board Superintendent Jodie Baker said she was thrilled to be able to showcase all of the pathways students have available to them, and given the response this year she's confident she can invite more industry next year to showcase the local opportunities and employers in Huron and Perth.

"We have to educate parents and guardians better about what opportunities are there so they can engage children in their discussions and we have to educate the children before they get to high school, because before they get into Grade 11 or 12, they've got a pathway or they're not sure but they haven't really looked at anything specifically," said Baker.

Baker said things like the Pathway Night give them a little insight into specific careers and the hope is this will encourage them to further investigate something that might interest them.
