County looking to streamline planning process for developers

Huron County's planning director updated county council this morning on steps they're taking to streamline the planning process for developers.

Sandra Weber explained one thing they're working on is communication. So they've started providing brochures with applicant guides to those processes so that people have that information they need as well as communication between county departments to be able to coordinate and better help people with that.

Weber said another thing they're looking at is study requirements and doing a tracking database of when studies are required or when there might be an opportunity to either scope those studies or waive the studies. And the other thing is pre-consultation. Weber said pre-consultation is also key to a smooth process for an application so they're talking to municipalities about a pre-consultation bylaw that would require applicants to pre-consult before they submit their application.

And finally, Weber said when the application is complete, they send the applicant a satisfaction survey to find out what went well with the process and what needs more work.

“So brochures with applicant guides to those processes so that people have that information, communication between county departments to be able to coordinated and better help people with that," she said. “The other thing that we're looking at is study requirements and doing a tracking database of when studies are required or when there might be an opportunity to either scope those studies or waive the studies. And the other thing is pre-consultation is key to having us move process for an application.”
