ABCA's Shoreline Management Plan draft coming soon

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority hopes to release a draft of its Shoreline Management Plan for consultation later this month.

Water and Planning Manager Geoff Cade said about 200 people attended public meetings in Thedford and Zurich throughout the summer and most of the focus was on shoreline erosion protection. But Cade said he also presented proposed guidelines relating to development on shoreline properties.

"So if we have an application on the shoreline for the construction of an addition on an existing cottage, we would refer to these types guidelines to give us direction on how to review them and what we can support and what we can't," he said.

The guidelines also speak to development of new cottages or homes.

"If someone has bought a property and wishes to tear down the existing structure and build a new one, or build an addition on an existing cottage, so it does go right to the regulation limit of the authority," said Cade.

Cade said there will be more opportunity for public consultation after they release the total draft Shoreline Management Plan.
