Mount Forest Resident Remembered At Rib Fest

A late resident of Mount Forest was memorialized at rib fest contest.

People gathered to enjoy the barbecued ribs and remember Bill Walker. He was a long time sports writer for the Owen Sound Sun Times who died of cancer last year at the age of 53.

Event organizer Axy Leighl says Bill liked the idea of a rib fest in his memory.

"He was a fun loving guy, gave a lot to the community and in his last couple of days I talked to him about a way to say goodbye, a way for people to express what he meant to them and I brought the idea of a rib fest to him and he liked the idea," says Leighl.

He adds the homage to Bill Walker is meant as a way for everyone to remember the people who are no longer with us.

"Everyone's got someone like this in their lives, they would come and get involved in honour of the people in their lives that bring fun and joy," says Leighl. "It's a way to say thanks."

The rib fest kicked off Mount Forest's 18th annual Fireworks Festival with events happening around town all weekend.

The fireworks go off Saturday night.
