UPDATE: Fire Bans Declared Throughout Region

The Huron County Fire Chiefs have declared an open-air fire ban in the county due to lack of significant rainfall and the forecast of more hot dry conditions.

All open air fires are prohibited during a fire ban, including those properties that have an Open-Air Fire Permit.

This ban applies to agricultural burns, brush pile burns, recreational fires, burn barrels, outdoor fireplaces/chimineas or any other fires set in open-air.

The Fire Chief for Brockton has also issued a Burn Ban. This applies to all agricultural burns. The only exception are small, contained and supervised recreational fires used for warmth or cooking between the hours of 7pm and 11pm.

Hanover's Chief Fire has issued a ban on all open-air fires and the lighting of fireworks within the Town. This ban applies to all campfires and recreational fires and all types of fireworks.

The Chief Fire Official for the Municipality of South Bruce has issued a ban on open-air fires effective immediately.

In West Grey, all burn permits have been cancelled, and there is a fire ban in effect.  It does not include campfires in a pit or tire rim or other device being used for cooking or warmth.

City of Owen Sound Fire Chief Doug Barfoot stated, “During these dry and hot conditions, grass and other outdoor vegetation becomes extremely flammable and fire can spread quickly and cause devastating damage in a short period of time. We want our residents and their neighbours to help keep the community safe by complying with this burn ban.”

All types of fires included in the open-air fire by-law fall under the burn ban. This burn ban includes, but is not limited to fires for cooking, recreational purposes or special purpose/ceremonial fires.

A burn ban has also been issued by the Intertownship Fire Department for their service area.

An open-air burning ban has been issued for the Township of Chatsworth and is in effect until further notice.   The open-air burning ban does not include supervised campfires contained in a pit or tire rim or other device designated to burn firewood for cooking and warmth. It should not exceed 1 m in diameter.

The Township of Georgian Bluffs has also declared a fire ban for all fires including backyard residential campfires.   Campfires in campgrounds and trailer parks are still permitted but must be kept small and contained. Howick have also issued a burn ban, as well as North Perth and Perth East.

Across Northern Bruce Peninsula, Bruce Peninsula National Park and Fathom Five National Marine Park all open fires are prohibited including campfires, charcoal barbecues, fireworks and candles.

The use of propane/gas camp stoves and lanterns is permitted but should be used cautiously.
