Gord Baxter Of Wingham: A Lifetime Of Service

The Wingham and District Hospital Foundation is losing a valuable member.

Gord Baxter will be retiring from the board next week, after serving for 42 years as treasurer of the foundation.

Baxter started with the Wingham and District Hospital Foundation as an employee in the hospital’s finance department. He later became the hospital's director of finance and continued to volunteer as treasurer for the foundation.

In recent years, he was part of the committee that established the CKNX Healthcare Heroes Radiothon and has played a key role in the Our Hospital, Our Future Campaign.

Baxter has helped raise over $7-million in support of the Wingham and District Hospital through his thousands of hours of volunteer time.

In a tribute from Dr. Marie Gear, she stated, "I have worked with Gord for 40 years. He has been active in every facet of health care during this time. The hospital administration, the hospital foundation, doctor recruitment and more recently with the family health network of physicians. He has often worked quietly in the background but always for the good of community health care as a whole. The entire medical staff congratulates Gord on his retirement from the hospital foundation board."

And WDH Foundation Board Chair Ian Montgomery added, "Gord has always put the best interest of the foundation and hospital forefront in anything that he has done. He has always guided the rest of the board in the best direction. The money our community has generously entrusted to the foundation, Gord has worked hard to make sure it goes as far as possible in order to do the utmost good for the Hospital community. We on the Wingham and District Hospital Foundation will truly miss Gord’s wisdom, but I know that he is only a phone call away."
