Tender Awarded For New Chesley Main Street Bridge

Bruce County council has selected the company to rebuild the Chesley Main Street Bridge.

The $2.5-million tender has been awarded to Looby Construction of Dublin, who submitted the low-bid of the four companies who were in the running for the tender.

Warden Paul Eagleson says it was a relief to see the tender bids come in at a reasonable price.

"They were under budget, so that's certainly been a relief for me, I was worried we wouldn't see those types of quality bids this late in the season," says Eagleson. "We're in good shape."

The reconstruction tender follows on the heels of the successful removal of the original bridge, which was damaged by ice and floodwaters in February.

Eagleson says everything went smoothly, thanks to the cooperation of dam owners upstream of the bridge.

"I think it went extremely well, the weather cooperated, the water stayed low because the gentlemen upstream we able to help us out and block the water with their dams," says Eagleson. "There's a bit of rubble perhaps left there, that's been left there intentionally, that's going to be used in part of the reconstruction."

Eagleson says a requirement of the construction tender is for the bridge to be completed by early December.
