Huron County Considers Purchasing Goderich Property

Huron County is investigating the possibility of purchasing land on the site of the former Victoria Public School.

CAO Meighan Wark says the county has been considering its option for some time regarding its current facilities and how that might be improved by moving to a new building, consolidating staff in that building or continue to have them at various locations around the county. Overcrowding in the courthouse building is another driver.

Wark says staff did not want to pursue the purchase of part of the Victoria Public School property until it had council's support, and that has been received.

A letter will be sent to the town of Goderich, with the possible intention of purchasing the land for a new administrative building for Huron County.

"We have been talking for a long time at the county about the fact that our bricks and mortar facilities are in need, or we are in need of doing something in relation to our facilities and this would be an excellent opportunity for us given the fact that the land is available and vacant,"says Wark. "Upon the ratification of the decision, a letter will be sent to the town of Goderich, and this is in relation to some land that was the site of the former Victoria Public School and our intention would be the purchase of the land for a new administrative building for the county of Huron."
