Demolition of a bridge into Chesley's downtown began Tuesday morning.
Pictures on Facebook show heavy equipment tearing off portions of the upper part of the 96-year-old bridge that was damaged during flooding on February 21.
It was originally thought replacing the bridge could take up to two years, but county officials are moving quickly on the project, and hope to have the bridge replaced by December.
