Counterfeit Bills Seized In Hanover

A Hanover woman has been arrested for possession of counterfeit bills, but police say the investigation is far from over.

The Hanover Police Service received a call Monday to a business in the 800-block of 10th St. regarding a counterfeit $50 bill.

Following a brief investigation, a 26-year-old woman from Hanover was arrested. She was allegedly found to be in possession of other counterfeit bills and related materials for producing counterfeit currency.

Hanover police believe that additional counterfeit bills are being circulated. The counterfeit denominations have been $50 and $20 bills. They are of poor quality and should be easy to identify as counterfeit.

Police are reminding merchants to be extra vigilant whenever accepting cash.

Anyone with information about this money is asked to contact Hanover Police Service or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or by submitting a secure web tip.

To fight counterfeiting, banks offer free training materials to assist the public and businesses in using the security features in genuine bank notes. An internet search can also provide tips on counterfeit detection.
