Changes Coming Soon At Mid-Huron Land Fill Site

The Mid-Huron Land Fill site near Holmesville is nearing the end of its life as a landfill site.

Waste has been going to the site since the mid-70s but it's reaching capacity and will officially close this June. The site is currently being used by six municipalities.

"Pursuant to an agreement with the town of Goderich, Central Huron and Huron East, [the future site] will operate as a recycling, transfer and hazardous waste facility for those residents of those three municipalities," says Goderich CAO Larry McCabe. "So hopefully, the agreement as amended will be back to that group in March or April for discussion."

McCabe says going forward there will be no contracted curb-side waste coming in after June. That will probably go to Mount Forest, through Waste Management.

After June the site will be designed for recycling of the goods that are being advertised, such as refrigerators, shingles, and construction materials, which will all be separated. There will be no mixed loads.

He adds the site will still be available to all of the residents of Huron County for hazardous waste.
