Goderich Student Home Safe After Search

A 'suspicious person occurance' Wednesday afternoon in Goderich ended safely.

It started around 3:30 at the intersection of Bennett Street and South Street when a group of students from Goderich District Collegiate Institute saw the driver of a pickup truck pull alongside a young boy who was walking by himself.

The driver called out "want a ride kid?" and the boy got into the vehicle and the vehicle drove off heading west on Bennett Street.

The concerned students returned to school and reported the encounter to school officials.

Following extensive police patrols, a neighbourhood canvas and a school notification message, police were able to find the pickup truck and the boy inside.

After speaking with both of them, police learned it was a family friend that picked up the boy and dropped him off safely at home.

Huron County OPP have offered their thanks to the public and the staff at Goderich District Collegiate Institute, Goderich Public School, and St. Mary's Catholic School for their assistance with the incident.
