Mildmay Affordable Housing Units Recovery Continues

Families and tenants of Bruce County’s Affordable Housing Units in Mildmay are still being kept out of their homes.

The homes were evacuated Friday night because of a water leak in the basement crawlspace of the building. The leak did not damage any of the housing units, but there was concern that the water mixed with a solution believed to be creosote.

Bruce County staff have been working with environmental engineers and a restoration company to ensure the property is fully restored and that residents can return without risk.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit has been consulted throughout the restoration process.

"The Housing team is working with the tenants to ensure that they are able to return to their homes as soon as possible," says Bruce County CAO Kelley Coulter. "The county organized and retained the short term housing for the tenants and we are appreciative of their understanding as we work to resolve this unexpected mechanical failure."

Bruce County continues a review to ensure all properties in the housing portfolio are protected against a similar incident.
