Nominations Sought For ABCA Conservationist Of The Year

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is now accepting nominations for its Conservationist of the Year Award.

Communications Specialist Tim Cumming says the ABCA has been recognizing a Conservationist of the Year since 1984 and points out it's unique in that it's neighbours recognizing neighbours for the work they do to improve their community.

"The nominations come from people in the watershed community and they recognize people doing good work in the community - so it's by the community, for the community and it's a great way to say thank you for all the work they're doing," says Cumming. "Tree planting, sometimes it's an environmental organization or a service club or fighting phragmites. Basically, if somebody's doing good work to the benefit of water, soil and living things in this community, they're likely a great candidate."

The deadline for nominations is January 31 and nomination forms can be found on the abca.on.ca website.

The award will be presented on Thursday, March 22 at the Ironwood Golf Club, just east of Exeter.
