GOJHL Wrap: Mercer Leads Cyclones to Victory

Cyclones 8 Sugar Kings 1

Cullen Mercer scored four times back-to-back to lead the Listowel Cyclones over the Elmira Sugar Kings 8-1.

Two of Mercer's goals were on the power play, the other two were short handed. Mercer also set up Jakob Lee midway through the first.

Ethan Skinner scored for the Sugar Kings. It was the first goal of the game at 9:27 of the opening period. Steven Grant answered for Listowel less than a minute later and Lee made it 2-1 Listowel 73 seconds later.

Holdyn Landsink extended the Cyclones lead at 10:10 of the second period. Mercer scored twice to end the middle frame.

Mercer struck again with a short handed goal at 7:37 of the third and again at 14:20 on the power play.  Lansink scored just over a minute-and-a-half later, also with the man advantage.

Max Wright stopped 26 shots for the Cyclones. Rhett Kimmel stopped 26 of 32 shots before being replaced midway through the third. Cy Martin stopped 9 of 11 shots in relief.

Siskins 7 Hurricanes 3

Waterloo was 5-for-10 on the power play in a 7-3 win over Guelph.

The Siskins also out shot the Hurricanes 56-21

Waterloo was led by Matthew Prucha with  a pair of goals and two assists and by Sam Cherry with a goal and three assists.

Maroons 8 Lincolns 1

Matthew Zilke was the lone scorer for the St. Marys Lincolns in their 8-1 loss to Chatham. Zilke's goal was in the opening minute of the second period, short handed and assisted by Tanner Hertel.

The Maroons were led by Bryce Yetman with a hat trick and three assists. Steven Fowler also had a hat trick in the win and set up another for the Maroons.

Evan Morrison stopped 37 shots for the Lincolns. John Massara made 34 saves for Chatham.
