Huron County's Development Board Director Wants More Discussion

The Director of Huron County's Economic Development Board says there has to be more discussion around the roles for the county's Economic Development Board and the Department as well as a clearer understanding around what constitutes a county economic development issue and what is more a member municipality issue or a B-I-A or Chamber issue. And Cody Joudry says that conversation hasn't happened yet.

Joudry says they meet regularly with representatives from the various B-I-As and Chambers in the county and he believes those people want the Economic Development Department to take a leadership role in that discussion ... not necessarily to dictate who does what but rather just start the discussion to say can we have some level of agreement on what the different areas of responsibility are.

Joudry points out many of those responsibilities overlap but many also have their own specific focus and it would be helpful for everyone involved if those differences were more clearly defined.

“There is further work to do about what role the board plays and what role staff plays in terms of the department, but also understanding what's more of a county economic development thing versus a member municipality EDO thing versus a B-I-A or Chamber thing.”

“Those people are looking for us to take a leadership role and have that conversation. Not necessarily to dictate who does what but rather just start the discussion to say can we have some level of agreement on what the different areas of responsibility are.”
