Wingham Police Trained To Use Overdose-Reversing Drug

Wingham police officers will now carry the overdose-reversing drug Naloxone.

The nasal spray can be administered to anyone who suffering an overdose from an opiod, including fentanyl.

In a release, Wingham police Chief Tim Poole says fentanyl has been discovered laced in other drugs in surrounding areas and "we would be very naive to suspect it's not in our community."

Chief Poole says officers will be carrying Naloxone, which they can use themselves should they accidentally come in contact with the drug, which can be absorbed through the skin.

They can also use it on overdose victims since police are usually the first emergency responders on the scene of a medical emergency.
