Group Advocating For Better Public Transportation In Bayfield

A member of a community group trying to help seniors continue to live in the village of Bayfield says the lack of public transportation is a serious problem.

The group is called Home4Good, and Arlene Timmins says some people are having to leave Bayfield to be closer to their health care providers because of the absence of public transportation when they are no longer able to drive.

Timmins says 20 years ago if you could get a taxi, it was expensive, but that's changed with the arrival of Shoreline Taxi.

"We've had a really good relationship with Shoreline Taxi and they are willing to have really reasonable fixed rates to do stuff in town," she says. "That wasn't available 25 years ago so that is part of the solution."

She says they've also had some success with an app for Libre Taxi which allows people to register either as a driver or rider,  and if a person is going into town on a given day they post the time of their trip and the destination and anyone who wants to ride along can link up with them.

Timmins adds it would be helpful if there was safe way people could walk along and cross Hwy. 21.
