Huron County Ready To Start Immigration Recruiting

Huron County council has approved a two-year funding agreement with the province that will be a big boost for the Local Immigration Partnership.

Immigration Liaison Kristin Crane explains they're hoping to attract newcomers from urban centres to Huron County but they recognize the need to provide training, specifically English, in order for the newcomers to be able to find work here.

The province will provide $30,000 over two years for the training.

Crane says they have done some preliminary work to see where some of the pockets of newcomers exist, and now they can start recruitment activities.

"What we're looking at doing is recruiting newcomers from urban centres and bringing them in and conducting the primary training that needs to take place -- English as a Second Language, specifically workplace vocabulary, the workplace health and safety," she says.
