Perth County Paramedics Heather Riedel and Andree Martin were honoured at the Ontario Association of PAramedic Chiefs General Meeting this week in Ottawa.
Riedel received the Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal while Martin received the O-A-P-C Humanitarian Award. Riedel has been a front-line paramedic for 25 years in Listowel, Waterloo Region and Perth County.
The Humanitarian Award recognizes Martin’s significant efforts to get medical supplies to Guatemala and to other third world countries.
Martin has been a paramedic with Perth County Paramedic Services since 2005, prior to that she worked as an advanced care paramedic in Sudbury, Kapuskasing and with Ontario’s Air Ambulance. Visiting the Guatemala area for a number of years, Martin says she is very aware of the lack of medical facilities and supplies in the region.
