Tree Planting Best in the Fall

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is now accepting fall tree orders.

Forestry and Land Stewardship Specialist Ian Jean says fall is an excellent time to plant trees because the trees are entering a period of dormancy with only a bit of root growth.   It's also a little cooler and there's more consistent rainfall.

Jean says the conservation authority can provide help in designing wind breaks and reforestation projects by helping people consider the soil and site drainage and then selecting the right trees.

Jean adds there is often funding available for different types of projects and they can help locate some of that funding support.

According to Jean, "There's funding for farm wind breaks, field wind breaks, larger reforestation projects, there's some good programs available at the moment.   It kind of depends on the type of project, where you're located,  and we work with people to try and access as much funding support as possible."
