Kincardine To Host Pride Parade

Kincardine will be hosting its first Pride Parade this month, to help celebrate Gay Pride Month and raise awareness for the LGBTQ community.

Fort Papalia, the president of the parade, says after initial talks, and drawing inspiration from bigger cities, the parade seemed like a great idea.

"We started talking about it and gradually, more and more people, businesses, the town all came on board.   Organizations, individuals, the municipality, the BIA, Chamber of Commerce, sponsors like the Ross Firm, and the Progressive Results Group, they just jumped right on board."

Despite a lot of progress, Papalia notes that LGBTQ awareness can still be an issue in rural areas, compared to some of the big cities.

"Guelph, London, Toronto, they all say 'Oh, that's still an issue? Really?' Yeah, it is. So, it's a big deal, we're getting lots of support, and it's just been really overwhelming."

The parade is Saturday, June 24th, and you can register to march in it or have a vehicle take part.

The parade gathers at Connaught Park at 10am, and proceeds to Victoria Park at 11am.
