Goderich Waits For Hazardous Materials Report For Marine Museum

Goderich C-A-O Larry McCabe says council is waiting for a hazardous material report before deciding on the final disposition of the Huron County Marine Museum at the foot of West Street.

McCabe explains the museum wasn't attracting enough visitors to the beach to justify keeping it open and up to standards so the county decided to close it after first offering it to the town. McCabe says the artifacts from the Marine Museum are now on display in the County Museum and it's hoped more people will see them there.

McCabe says they've hired a consultant to inspect the building for hazardous materials and he expects they will find asbestos and lead paint in the building. Council is waiting for that report before proceeding with the demolition of the building.
