Government Makes Naloxone Kits Available Free At Pharmacies

A new government program is providing life saving Naloxone kits for free at local pharmacies.

Matt DiGiovanni, Pharmacy Manager at Royal Oaks Pharma Save in Wingham, says the kits will help in an overdose crisis.

"Your pharmacist will provide training on how to use it, when to use it, and again, this will provide a temporary reversal of that overdose, allow that patient to come back from the brink of death, and get to the hospital to get some medical care."

The kits contain two Naloxone doses, and are meant to help with the increasing overdose crisis brought on by fentanyl and other illicit drugs. DiGiovanni says a new special kit is available to anyone who needs one.

"We're allowed to provide emergency kits to anyone who may be at risk for an overdose. So that could be somebody that's using prescription narcotics, street drugs, or a friend or family member that might just be concerned. These kits are totally free."
