North Huron Works To Replace Fire Department Positions

With the departure of Fire Chief David Sparling and Fire Prevention Officer James Marshall, North Huron CAO Sharon Chambers says the next step is putting together a recruitment process to replace them.

Chambers says she has awarded the recruitment services, which will get underway soon.

“I will be awarding the quote to Chief Phil Eagleson of Saugeen Shores Fire Department. So he is going to assist us with the recruitment process,” she says.

Eagleson will help develop interview questions, review the job profiles, and review the wages to ensure everything meets certain requirements. Eagleson tendered a quote of $3,100 for his services. James Marshall’s last day as prevention officer was February 3, but Chambers says Sparling will be sticking around for the time being until March 31.

“David will be staying on in a part-time basis to help us through the transition, and is certainly willing to help us beyond that. But we will be trying to meet that goal of trying to get someone in place by March 31, if at all possible,” says Chambers.

Chambers also noted a key part of the process is having Chief Eagleson work with the firefighters to gauge what they would like to see from their new leadership.
