GOJHL Wrap-up: Sugar Kings Win, Lincolns Suffer Defeat

Leamington 6 St. Marys 3

The St. Marys Lincolns had tied the game before allowing three goals in the second as they fell 6-3 to Leamington.

Parker Jacques opened the scoring for Leamington at 6:05 of the first. Tanner Hertel answered for St. Marys less than two minutes later. Brett Vorshuk put the Flyers ahead again at 9:28 to end the first period with a 2-1 lead.

Dallas Maurovic put the Flyers up 3-1 early in the second before Hertel scored his second of the game to bring the Lincolns to within a point. Josh Pope-Ferguson put the Flyers up 4-2 at 13:54. Scott Florence and Nicolas Mainella made the best of the man advantage in the final minute of the period, scoring power play goals to put Leamington up 6-2 heading into the third.

Riley Coome scored on the power play at the midway point of the third but couldn't get a rally going and the Lincolns had to settle for a 6-3 defeat.

Tanner Hertel led the Lincolns with a pair of goals.

Tristan lewis made 17 saves on 23 shots before being replaced in the third by Graham Dynes. Dynes stopped all 8 shots he faced.

The Flyers' Connor Meyerink made 37 saves for the win.

Elmira 4 Brantford 3

The Elmira Sugar Kings jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first and held on to beat Brantford 4-3.

Ethan Skinner and Jake Brown put the Sugar Kings on the board in the opening frame. Nick Visser, Joel Nagy and Mike Finger answered for the 99ers in the second.

Jeff Jordan scored the equalizer early in the third and Klayton Hoelscher netted the game winner at 11:46 of the final frame to secure the win.

Jordan and Skinner led the Sugar Kings offense with a goal and an assist each. Mitch Hoelscher picked up two points with a pair of assists.

Tyler Mazzocato made 25 saves in net for Elmira.
