Bayfield Group Starts Planning For New Recreation Centre

A group made up of community organizations, business people and service clubs in Bayfield is proposing to build a new recreational facility and run it privately for the community.

Sandy Scotchmer sits on the board of the Bayfield Facility Initiative Team and says they have very broad support throughout the community.

She says it will likely take two to three years to determine through public consultation what the community wants; how much that would cost; and where they could build it.

Scotchmer points out the facility would be paid for with private money and grants, and would be managed by a board that would be responsible for running the facility as well as maintenance so there would be no cost to the municipality.

Scotchmer says all they're asking of the municipality is that it extend the three-year agreement they made with the Bayfield Arena Community Partners group to run the current arena for another three years until they can get a plan put together to bring back to council.

Bluewater council has asked for a full report on the project.
