Christmas Can Be A Time Of Scams
Scam artists are very busy this time of year, and the OPP are reminding people to be suspicious.
They’ve received report from people being solicited over the phone, email, or social media.
Scammers advise that you have won a large amount of money, and in order to receive the winnings, you are required to pay a small advance fee to cover taxes or legal fees.
Known lottery and sweepstakes companies will never request money up front in order to send a prize.
Anyone who believes they may be the victim of such a fraud can contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
Valuable information concerning fraud prevention and awareness can be located through the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or http://www.antifraudcentre.ca.
